My home is a rambler. The lower level consists of my child care area. It is long and narrow so I have had to be creative in the set up to maximize our space. We also have a bathroom, office and exercise room in our lower level.
I like to rotate toys often, with a storage room full of "big" stuff like Geotracks, doll houses and lots of art supplies.
Here is a typical day at Angie's Child Care:
7:00 - 8:00 - Arrivals - I like to have PBS on TV for the kids.
8:00 - 8:30 - Breakfast
8:30 - 9:00 - departure for school age kids.
9:00 - 11:00 - play room for free play - arts/crafts - music - computer
11:00 - clean up and start making lunch
11:30 - 12:00 - lunch
12:00 - 1:00 - either in the playroom if weather is poor or outside play time
1:00 - 3:00 - quiet time
3:00 - 3:30 - put away mats - clean up and have snack
3:30 - 5:00 - either in the playroom if poor weather or outside play time.
For the 2011 and 2012 school years we head to Gestheme preschool M,W,F at 8:30 a.m. to drop off the children who attend. We pick them up again at 11:30. This is the preschool that parents chose together. I do recommend preschool because it gives children a large group school type environment that they will need to adjust to when they head to kindergarten.
Extra Stuff:
We are an "on the go" child care!
I have a 12 passenger van and love to take the kids out and about.
Tuesday and Thursday - we often head to the recreation center for open gym time. Wednesdays we head downtown St. Paul for story time at the library. We might head to McDonald playland when the weather is poor. Lots of playground visits are done as well as some bigger field trips to the Children's Museum, Deer Farm, Bible School and any other fun things I come up with. The children love spending time away from my home as well. I provide all the car seats for travel in my van.
